Fire Season Information

The Fire Season in McKellar runs from April 1 to October 31 annually.

During Fire Season, no person shall start an open air fire except between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. the following day, and only when permitted under the current Fire Danger Rating System.

The Current Fire Rating is:   HIGH

Campfire vs. Open-Air Burning

Campfire

A small fire used for:
- Cooking or preparing food
- Warmth
- Recreation

Shall NOT exceed 1 metre (3’) in diameter and 1 metre (3’) in height.

Open-Air Burning

Please note that a permit is required for all Open-Air Burning. To apply please reach out to our Fire Chief. 

A larger, controlled fire typically used for: 
- Burning brush
- Burning dry wood and natural vegetation 

Shall NOT exceed 2 m (6’6”) in diameter and less than 2 m (6’6”) in height.

Under no circumstances is the burning of garbage, fuel, construction materials, plastics, or toxic materials permitted.

Fireworks

In McKellar, a permit is required in order to discharge fireworks. For additional information, please review the Township’s Fireworks By-Law.

To apply for a Fireworks Permit, please complete the Display Fireworks Approval Form and submit it to fire@mckellar.ca.
