The Township of McKellar is committed to openness, transparency, and protecting personal privacy. The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) provides the public with the right to request access to municipal records, subject to limited exemptions, while protecting personal information held by the Municipality.
Important Notice – Changes to MFIPPA
Legislative changes to the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) have been introduced through Bill 97. Among these changes, Municipalities now have 45 business days to respond to most Freedom of Information requests, replacing the previous 30-calendar-day response period. Other amendments to the Act may also affect how requests are processed.
Before Submitting a Request
Many Municipal records are made available through the Township's website, without making a formal FOI request. If you cannot find the information you are looking for, please contact the Clerk/Administrator or Deputy Clerk. Staff may be able to provide the records through a routine disclosure request, saving you time and the cost of a formal application.
Filing a Freedom of Information Request
To submit a formal request under MFIPPA, please provide:
The Township's Freedom of Information Application Form; and
The application fee ($5.00) - payment via debit, e-transfer (to admin@mckellar.ca), cash or cheque. The application is not considered filed until payment has been received by the Township.
Please submit requests to the Clerk/Administrator, clerk@mckellar.ca or by mail.
